A 77-year-old Mission Hills woman was in critical condition Friday after being trapped under her car for at least 15 minutes.

Dorothy Hazzard had just parked in a driveway at Washington Place and Hawk Street at 11 a.m. The car began to move as she got out, knocking her down and rolling over her, San Diego Fire Department spokesman Dan Goebel said.

Goebel said it took firefighters and paramedics five minutes to release the woman from underneath the car’s front axle. Rescue crews used air bags to lift the car, he said.

Hazzard was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition with head injuries and fractures, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Goebel said Hazzard’s husband, who had been in another car nearby, witnessed the accident.
