Ben Johnson Runs Fifth in Return to 100 Meters

Ben Johnson, running the 100-meter dash for the first time since testing positive for steroid use at the the 1988 Olympic Games, finished fifth Saturday in an international track and field meet at Granada, Spain.

Johnson got off to a good start, but Dennis Mitchell of the United States blew past him at the halfway point and won by four meters in 10.18 seconds.

Johnson was clocked in 10.54. Nikolai Antonov of Bulgaria finished second in 10.49, followed by Luis Rodriguez of Spain and Patrick Stevens of Belgium.

Judges originally gave Johnson a provisional fourth place before reviewing the finish.
