Supervisors Strengthen Massage Parlor Controls

At the request of Sheriff Sherman Block, the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday strengthened the ordinance regulating massage parlors in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.

The ordinance, unanimously approved without comment, requires parlor operators to notify the county “of each person employed as a masseuse or technician.” Applicants must furnish a diploma or certificate of graduation from a recognized school. It also requires “massage technicians to be fully clothed,” and that patrons “wear clothes which cover the patron’s genitals and if a female, the breasts.”
