KROQ

In response to “Rocking the Listener’s Trust,” editorial, May 4:

While I do not listen to KROQ-FM on a regular basis and did not hear the broadcast in question, I still have to take exception to The Times charging the radio station with “abusing the public trust.” I suspect most listeners of that station do so for the rock ‘n’ roll programming, not for late-breaking, hard news reporting. This entire incident reminds me of Orson Welles’ “War of the Worlds.” The fact that the Sheriff’s Department joined the show only adds to the hilarity.

What is really baffling to me is these same editors acknowledging the rights of Robert Mapplethorpe, then smearing the radio station over the same freedom of speech issue.
