Thousand Oaks has received a donation of 214 acres from two developers, a city official said Wednesday.

The donation of 204 acres from Costa Mesa-based General Procurement & Construction Co. to the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency will allow a scenic ridge on the northern edge of Thousand Oaks to remain undeveloped, said Doug Nickles, city open space planner.

COSCA also received a donation of 10 acres in the Westlake area from the Sherman Oaks-based Lycon Group.

Both firms agreed to donate the land as part of a deal to build two different housing tracts in the city.

COSCA oversees 7,300 acres of city and Conejo Recreation and Park District land. The largest piece of land donated to COSCA was 3,000 acres by Prudential Insurance Co. in 1986, Nickles said.

City Council members indicated Tuesday night that they would like more open space preserved and will look into a proposal to issue bonds to finance land acquisition.

A committee made up of city, park and school officials is scheduled next week to evaluate whether bonds should be issued, Mayor Frank Schillo said.
