1991 Orange County Performing Arts Center Triathlon

The sixth annual Orange County Performing Arts Center Triathlon will take place on Sunday in and around Lake Mission Viejo.

The first stage of the race, a swim of nearly one mile, begins at 7 a.m. The swim will be followed by a 24.8-mile bicycle course through the rolling hills of Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita and unincorporated areas of the county. The final stage is a 6.2-mile run along Olympiad Road and Marguerite Parkway near the lake.

The race will finish at the North Beach areas of Lake Mission Viejo, where there will be music, entertainment and prize drawings from 9 a.m. to noon.

Race officials said 1,100 individuals and 200 teams will take part in the triathlon. Registration for the race is closed, and participants can pick up their race packets today at center of the Crystal Court shopping mall next to South Coast Plaza.

Road Closures

There will be numerous street closures as a result of the triathlon. The following is a list of what roads will be affected and when.

* Melinda Road: Closed between Olympiad Road and Tobarra from 7 to 11:45 a.m.

* Olympiad Road: Closed between Marguerite Parkway and Escatron from 6:45 to 11:45 a.m.

* Santa Margarita Parkway: Closed between Antonio Parkway and Plano Trabuco Road from 7 to 9:45 a.m.; one lane closed westbound between Antonio and Marguerite parkways from 7 to 10:15 a.m.; one lane closed eastbound between Melinda Road and Antonio Parkway from 7 to 9:45 a.m.; one land closed eastbound between El Toro Road and Los Alisos Boulevard from 7:45 to 10:45 a.m.

* Marguerite Parkway: One lane closed northbound between Santa Margarita Parkway and El Toro Road from 7:30 to 10:15 a.m.; closed at Olympiad Road from 7:45 to 10:45 a.m.; one lane closed southbound between Cordova Road and La Barca from 7:45 to 10:45 a.m.; one lane closed northbound between Ameno and Alicia Parkway from 8 to 11:15 a.m.

* El Toro Road: One land closed northbound between Marguerite Parkway and Live Oak Canyon Road from 7:45 to 10:15 a.m.; one lane closed northbound between Raintree Lane and Santa Margarita Parkway from 7:45 to 10:30 a.m.

* Los Alisos Boulevard: Closed southbound between Santa Margarita Parkway and Cordova Road from 7:45 to 10:45 a.m.

* Cordova Road: Closed eastbound between Los Alisos Boulevard and Marguerite Parkway from 7:45 to 10:45 a.m.

* Alicia Parkway: One lane closed westbound between Marguerite Parkway and Olympiad Road from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Parking Restrictions

There will be no parking on the following street from 2 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

* Olympiad Road: West side between Marguerite Parkway and Escatron and east side between Marguerite and Alicia parkways.

* Melinda Road: East side between Olympiad Road and Santa Margarita Parkway.

* Santa Margarita Parkway: South side between Melinda and Plano Trabuco roads and between El Toro Road and Los Alisos Boulevard; north side between Marguerite Parkway and Plano Trabuco Road.

* Marguerite Parkway: East side between Alicia Parkway and Olympiad Road and between Santa Margarita Parkway and El Toro Road.

* El Toro Road: East side between Raintree Lane and Santa Margarita Parkway.

* Los Alisos Boulevard: West side between Santa Margarita Parkway and Cordova Road.

* Cordova Road: South side between Los Alisos Boulevard and Marguerite Parkway.

* Alicia Parkway: North side between Marguerite Parkway and Olympiad Road.
