SCARY MONSTERS: John Lennon assassin Mark David Chapman’s voice on a Top 20 album? It sounds preposterous--but listen again to the opening of “Lies,” one of the tracks from EMF’s new “Schubert Dip” album. The song opens with an extended sample of a distraught Chapman reciting the lyrics from Lennon’s “Watching the Wheels”: “People say I’m crazy, doing what I’m doing, well they gave me all kinds of warnings, to save me from ruin. . . .” The band has been under fire in the British press for having the bad taste to highlight Chapman’s ravings, which were recorded by police after his arrest for Lennon’s murder. But EMF guitarist Ian Dench responds: “We love and respect John Lennon. It’s the people making the fuss, overreacting, that are glorifying his death.” . . . And Daddy Freddy may not be the best rapper, but he’s definitely the world’s fastest rapper. The quick-tongued Jamaican hip-hop contender, whose debut album is due next week from Chrysalis Records, is listed in the new Guinness Book of World Records’ “Fastest Rapper” category. Freddy spewed 507 syllables in 60 seconds on a BBC radio program last year, breaking his own record of 346 syllables at a 1989 music festival.
