AUSTRALIA: A boost in exports rescued Australia from another quarter of negative growth, but economists warned that the domestic economy was still weak. Figures released last week showed that the gross national product rose 0.1% in the first quarter of 1991--surprising experts, who had expected a decline. That followed 0.3% growth in the last quarter of 1990. In the two previous quarters, however, the economy shrank 0.1% and 1.8%, putting Australia into recession.
