SAN CLEMENTE : Planners Institute New Appeals Process

Share

A streamlined appeals process for residents was put into effect by the city Planning Commission this week.

By a 4-0 vote, the commissioners on Monday cut in half the 30-day waiting period for citizens to appeal a Planning or Design Commission decision to the City Council.

The cutback in appeal time was accomplished by rescinding a requirement for Planning Commission minutes to be approved by the commissioners--a process that takes about one month--before an appeal could be brought before the council.

The vote on Wednesday authorizes a shorter version of the minutes containing only the commission decisions, eliminating the need for the actual minutes to be approved.

The council will receive the streamlined minutes in about 10 to 15 days after the commission meeting.

“It makes the council aware of our decisions in a much shorter time,” said Commissioner John Tengdin. “That’s good for residents who want to appeal our decisions.”
