U.N. Now Clears Iraq on Food Aid
Bush Administration complaints that Iraq is diverting emergency food aid are exaggerated, the United Nations said Thursday.
U.N. spokesman Francois Giuliani said the office of Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, head of U.N. relief in the region, told him that some food was diverted, but “once the World Food Program pointed this out, the (Iraqi) government replenished what had been taken, and there was no major problem.”
The Administration said Wednesday that Iraq diverted food meant for Kurdish refugees to Tikrit, hometown of President Saddam Hussein.
