The Orange County Performing Arts Center struck pay dirt on Wednesday night, netting $100,000 from the Gold Rush Gala that followed Placido Domingo’s performance in “The Girl of the Golden West” at Segerstrom Hall.

Among guests at the $500-per-person gala at the Westin South Coast Plaza were Nick and Barbara Steele Williams, at right, and above, Jolene and Richard Engel, underwriters.

On behalf of the Harry and Grace Steele Foundation, Barbara Steele Williams donated $500,000 to help underwrite the opera. The production was co-presented by the Center, Opera Pacfic and the Los Angeles Music Center Opera.
