The funeral procession for a student killed in an anti-government protest turned violent when about 2,000 protesters began hurling rocks and firebombs at riot police in Seoul. The 12-hour funeral procession through South Korea’s capital, which drew 30,000, mourned Kim Kwi Jung, 25. She was nicknamed the “Flower of Democracy” after she was apparently trampled by other students fleeing police firing tear gas in a May 25 clash. The funeral came seven weeks after police fatally beat another student, triggering nationwide protests.
