The SEC turned down bids from the Pacific Stock Exchange and the Philadelphia Stock Exchange to compete with the New York Stock Exchange’s extended hours, which went into effect Thursday. Both exchanges had asked the SEC to allow the extension of operations to begin the same day as the NYSE’s. The Securities Exchange Commission is expected to reconsider the requests soon, exchange spokesmen said.
