$54,000 in Instruments Donated to University Chemistry Department

Share

The department of chemistry and biochemistry at Cal State Long Beach has received a gift of equipment worth $54,000 from Hewlett-Packard as part of the department’s 1990-91 corporate annual fund campaign. It is the largest single gift in the campaign so far.

The contribution of a gas chromatograph and mass spectrometer system will enable undergraduate students to get hands-on experience with up-to-date instruments.

The contribution is a result of efforts by Bill Preston, a sales representative for Hewlett-Packard and a CSULB alumnus, and Dennis Dingle, district sales manager for Hewlett-Packard and a member of the corporate campaign committee.

Arco also recently made a $5,000 contribution to the chemistry department’s annual fund. Arco’s contribution will be used in the chemistry department’s endowment fund for student scholarships and fellowships.

The annual fund campaign was established to maintain academic excellence of the department through creation of the endowment fund and donations of equipment by corporations that employ the department’s graduates.
