From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The 89 American, British, French and Dutch troops who had occupied Dahuk since May 24 quietly withdrew, the first city vacated by allied troops in northern Iraq. About 1,500 Kurds surrounded the allied compound Friday night and pleaded with coalition forces to stay. Meanwhile, allied military officers said that Maj. Gen. Wafik Jasim Sammari, chief of Iraq’s military intelligence bureau, has been jailed by Saddam Hussein for “anti-regime activities,” and that Brig. Gen. Nushwan Danoun, chief Iraqi representative to the allies in northern Iraq, has disappeared and is believed under Iraqi arrest.
