WORLD IN BRIEF : ISRAEL : Disguised Agents Shown at Work
Israel admitted for the first time that its soldiers dressed as Arab men and women to catch Palestinians fighting its occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Israel television showed an undercover agent putting on lipstick and women’s clothes. He then strolled up to an unsuspecting Arab in the street, pulled a gun and nabbed him. It showed other soldiers donning checkered headdresses and false mustaches to pass as Palestinian men. Official military sources said the army plans to expand the work of the undercover units because they have been so successful. Palestinians have accused some of the units of killing suspected activists, but the army has denied the charge.
