WESTSIDE : Olympic Festival Torch Run Will Wend Through Area

The U.S. Olympic Festival Torch Run will dip in and out of the Westside for four days starting today.

The torch run, which began June 16 in Sacramento, will continue through Southern California until July 12, ending with the festival’s opening ceremonies at Dodger Stadium.

The festival itself runs from July 12 to 21 in Los Angeles. The festival, held in a U.S. city each non-Olympics year since 1984, features competition in 37 sports by more than 3,000 American amateur athletes.

Here is the route the torch run will follow through the Westside:

Today: Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica

10:45 a.m.--Enters Malibu from Ventura County at Pacific Coast Highway.

10:45 a.m.-4 p.m.--follows Pacific Coast Highway through Malibu and Pacific Palisades.

4:15 p.m.--Santa Monica. Up California Incline to Ocean Avenue, then to San Vicente Boulevard (4:30 p.m.); concludes for day at San Vicente Boulevard and 26th Street at 5:05 p.m.

Friday: Santa Monica, Culver City, Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank

7:30 a.m.--Torch ceremony at Santa Monica Post Office, 5th Street and Arizona Avenue.

8 a.m.--Run starts. Route follows 5th Street, Wilshire Boulevard, 26th Street, Santa Monica Boulevard, 20th Street, Pico Boulevard (8:35 a.m.) to Sepulveda Boulevard (9 a.m.) to Jefferson Boulevard to Overland Avenue to Washington Boulevard, then on to central Los Angeles, Glendale and Burbank.

Saturday: Burbank, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Westwood, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Venice

9 a.m.--Run starts in Burbank.

10:20 a.m.--Torch enters Hollywood via Cahuenga Pass and Highland Avenue. Route follows Highland to Fountain Avenue to La Brea Avenue to 3rd Street to Fairfax Avenue (Farmers Market, 11:30 a.m.), back north on Fairfax to Sunset Boulevard to Doheny Drive to 3rd Street (Beverly Hills Post Office, 12:15 p.m.) to Foothill Road to Burton Way to Crescent Drive to Canon Drive to Carmelita Avenue to Oakhurst Drive to Elevado Avenue to Maple Drive to Lomitas Avenue to Beverly Drive to Elevado Avenue to Linden Drive to Wilshire Boulevard to Beverly Glen Boulevard to Sunset Boulevard to Hilgard Avenue.

2 p.m.--Enters UCLA campus at Hilgard entrance. Route proceeds through campus to Westwood Boulevard to Wilshire Boulevard to Federal Building (3:15 p.m.) to Sepulveda Boulevard to Santa Monica Boulevard to Veteran Avenue to Montana Avenue to Sepulveda Boulevard to Wilshire Boulevard to Barrington Avenue to Sunset Boulevard to Bundy Drive to Ocean Park Boulevard (5:30 p.m.) to Neilson Way to Pacific Avenue to Windward Avenue to Main Street, stopping for the day at 6:05 p.m.

Sunday: Venice, Marina del Rey, Westchester, Inglewood, South Los Angeles, Huntington Park, Bell

9 a.m.--Start for day at Venice Boulevard and Main Street. Route follows Venice Boulevard, Pacific Avenue, Washington Boulevard, Via Marina, Admiralty Way (9:20 a.m.), to Fiji Way to Lincoln Boulevard to Washington Boulevard to Glencoe Avenue to Mindanao Way to Lincoln Boulevard to Jefferson Boulevard and into Inglewood.

After about an hour through Inglewood, the run returns to Westchester via Jefferson and Lincoln, to 83rd Street to Loyola Boulevard, and into Loyola Marymount University at 11:20 a.m. The route then follows Loyola Boulevard to Manchester Boulevard and back into Inglewood.
