NATION IN BRIEF : ILLINOIS : Medicare Pay Plan Assailed by AMA

The American Medical Assn., on the last day of its annual convention in Chicago, attacked the federal government’s plan to lower Medicare reimbursements to doctors and called for a lobbying effort to change the fee structure. Some members warned that the plan could mean less care for senior citizens. “We fear that, as physicians feel the impact of this, it could potentially affect access of Medicare patients,” said Thomas Reardon, an AMA board member.
