Faubus, the former governor who called out the National Guard to keep nine black students from attending all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Ark., in 1957, has been honored with a bust in the state Capitol. Daisy Bates, who advised the students, said: “It’s an insult to the parents of the nine kids and what they went through.” Said Faubus: “The sculptor tried to catch my visage in a smile, which he has failed to do.
