MR. MOTOR CITY: After a five-year hiatus, Bob Seger returns at the end of August with “The Fire Inside,” his first new album since 1986. To breathe some new life into his career, Seger has teamed up with popular studio hand Don Was, who produced five tracks, including “The Real Love,” “Take a Chance” and “The Mountain.” Seger has also covered a pair of Tom Waits songs, “New Coat of Paint” and “Blind Love.” . . . Ric Ocasek has moved from Geffen to Warner Bros. Records, where he’s releasing his first solo album in five years. Produced with Nile Rodgers, the album is out this week, featuring such new material as “Fireball Zone,” “Flowers of Evil,” “Rockaway” and “Mr. Meaner.” . . . And our favorite Divorce Settlement of the Month involves Mandy Smith, Bill Wyman’s teen-age ex-wife, who received a hefty $2-million fee in return for promising not to cooperate with any Hollywood movies made about their tumultuous marriage.
