The City Council has adopted a $51.3-million budget, including a 60% increase in funds for public works projects and pay raises for city officials.

The budget for fiscal year 1991-92, which begins Monday, was approved Thursday.

Funds allotted for public works projects increased to $15.5 million from $9.3 million approved for 1990-91. Law enforcement and the county Fire Department received fund increases also.

The council approved a 4.4% pay raise for City Manager Chris Rope, who now makes $108,528 annually. Salary funds make up about 1% of the total budget.

City Treasurer Phyllis Tucker will receive a 13.7% raise. Tucker, who currently makes $32,496 a year, said the raise was justified by increasing paperwork.

“There’s a lot more work to do,” she said.
