BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Dykstra Gets Back in Batting Cage
Lenny Dykstra took batting practice with the Philadelphia Phillies for the first time since breaking his collarbone in a car crash on May 6. He hopes to return to the lineup July 11. The Phillies also placed relief pitcher Roger McDowell on the 15-day disabled list with a strain of the lower left rib cage.
Commissioner Fay Vincent, saying that small-market teams like the Milwaukee Brewers must increase their revenue sources to stay competitive, gave his endorsement to a new $140-million stadium for the team. “I think people have to recognize that a new ball park may be essential to the health of this franchise,” Vincent said.
