Nation IN BRIEF : PENNSYLVANIA : Telephone Service Disrupted Again

Telephone service was disrupted a second day in southwestern Pennsylvania because of a computer problem similar to ones that recently caused outages in several states, affecting more than 10 million people. More than 1 million Bell of Pennsylvania customers had trouble making and receiving calls for six hours Monday. An undetermined number of customers had the same problems for about four hours Tuesday, Bell officials said. The sudden outage likely was caused by a glitch in new computer software.
