PAY BACK: Freshman Assemblyman Tom Mays (R-Huntington Beach) got a rude lesson in politics Tuesday as he tried to win approval of his bill limiting offshore oil drilling. Before the merits of the bill could be tossed around, one senator pointedly reminded the rookie about the art of the deal. Seems Mays killed a bill by Henry J. Mello (D-Watsonville), who dished back: “I believe strongly in the Bible: Do unto others as they do unto you.” Mello eventually abstained. Without his and several other votes, Mays’ bill was beached.
