Here’s Where You Can Get a Big Bang Out of the 4th

Fireworks displays celebrating the Fourth of July will be held today throughout San Diego County. Here are some of the festivities and their locations:

* Camp Pendleton’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department is sponsoring a fireworks display from the jetty at the border of Camp Pendleton and Oceanside Harbor at 9 p.m. Music on Q106-FM (106.5) will be broadcast in conjunction with the display. Optimum viewing will be from the Del Mar Beach on the base as well as from the base housing hillside area near the noncommissioned officer’s club. Access to the base is limited to active-duty and retired military personnel and their dependents.

* Carlsbad’s Big Bang Committee is putting on its annual fireworks display at 9 p.m. at the foot of Tamarack Avenue at Carlsbad Boulevard. The 23-minute sky show will be synchronized with patriotic music broadcast on KKOS-FM (95.9).

* Chula Vista’s fireworks display will be launched at 9 p.m. from a barge near Marina View Park, west of J Street. The Chula Vista bayfront, Marina View Park and across the bay on the Silver Strand will provide excellent viewing spots. Q106-FM (106.5) will broadcast a music program synchronized with the show. The public is encouraged to use the shuttle service from the H Street, Palomar Street and Bayfront/E Street trolley stations, which will run from 7-8:45 p.m. and return at 11 p.m.

* Coronado’s Fourth of July Committee will present fireworks with bright colors and breathtaking designs over Glorietta Bay at 9 p.m. The Glorietta Bay Park and the Coronado public golf course will provide opportunities for premium viewing. The sky show will be choreographed to music and simulcast on Q106-FM (106.5).

* Del Mar Fair’s aerial pyrotechnics will begin at 9 p.m. The fireworks, launched from the infield of the Del Mar Race Track, can be best seen from the concert seats and from the grandstand. The sky show will be choreographed to music broadcast by Q106-FM (106.5). Admission to the fair is $6 for adults, $3 for those 62 and older and $1 for children 6-12. Under 6 is free.

* El Cajon’s Cajon Speedway will feature a fireworks display after the races, about 9 p.m. Admission for adults is $7 or $8 and for children $3.

* El Cajon’s Chamber of Commerce is staging a choreographed fireworks display in Kennedy Park at 9 p.m. The sky show will be synchronized with music broadcast on KSON-FM (97.3).

* North Island Naval Base will present a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. on Breakers Beach for military personnel and their dependents. Access to the base and parking is limited to military personnel and dependents.

* Oceanside’s fireworks display will be seen best from the Oceanside beach at 9 p.m. The aerial pyrotechnics will be choreographed to music broadcast by Q106-FM (106.5). Beach area parking is available near the Mission Avenue exit.

* Rancho Bernardo Inn will present a fireworks display at 9 p.m. after its 7:30 p.m. presentation of Symphony on the Green. Admission for the concert is $15, including a chair, $12 without.

* Rancho Bernardo’s Spirit of the Fourth Committee fireworks will be launched from the water tower above the Bernardo Heights Community Center at 9:15 p.m. Best viewing will be from Bernardo Heights Parkway and the surrounding area.

* Rancho Penasquitos’ Community Council’s fireworks display will begin at 9 p.m. at the Sun Devil Stadium of Mt. Carmel High School. The stadium stands will provide the best viewing.

* San Marcos’ fireworks show will originate in Bradley Park at 9 p.m.

* Santee’s display will at 9 p.m. from Mission Gorge Road and Cuyamaca Street. The fireworks can be seen best from any high vantage point in the city. Q106-FM (106.5) will broadcast music to accompany the sky show. There is no designated parking.

* Vista’s fireworks will be held at 9 p.m. at Brengle Terrace Park, and a free “After the Fireworks” dance will be held on the basketball courts afterward.

SAN DIEGO * San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium’s fireworks will be held after the Padre-Dodger game that starts at 7:05. The sky show will be synchronized with patriotic music.

* La Jolla’s fireworks display will be launched from a barge off the La Jolla Cove at 9 p.m. The sky show will be choreographed and broadcast on B100-FM (100.7). Best viewing will be from Scripps Park on the Cove.

* Mira Mesa High School will be the launching site of a show coordinated with a Q106-FM (106.5) broadcast at 9 p.m. The Mira Mesa Recreation Center and nearby area will offer the best viewing.

* Mission Bay Yacht Club will host a fireworks show ignited from a barge off El Carmel Point in Mission Bay at 9 p.m. The western side of Crown Point and Fiesta Island are the optimum locations for enjoying the show.

* Ocean Beach will feature a fireworks display that can be viewed from the Ocean Beach Park and any point facing west at 9 p.m. The sky show will be choreographed to a mix of contemporary and patriotic music and simulcast on Q106-FM (106.5).

* Sea World’s fireworks display will be launched from a barge in Mission Bay between Sea World and Fiesta Island at 9 p.m. The show will be in sync with music broadcast by Q106-FM (106.5).
