Egypt Detains Israel Researchers in Boat
Egyptian police detained a group of Israeli university researchers on a boat in the Gulf of Aqaba for entering a restricted area, an Israeli Embassy spokesman said Wednesday.
Ten Israelis, including marine biology researchers from Haifa Univeristy and the boat’s crew, were arrested Tuesday near Sharm el Sheik at the southern tip of the Sinai peninsula after collecting sea plants.
The embassy spokesman said the 10 had been in international waters very close to Egyptian territorial waters--with permission from Cairo authorities.
