Culver City : Plans for Downtown
Moving one step closer toward a make-over of downtown Culver City, a group of residents and city planners presented their vision for a revitalized city center to the city’s Redevelopment Agency last week.
Their suggestions included simplifying travel on the “X”-intersection formed by Culver and Washington boulevards, creating a farmers market and town square, and embedding medallions commemorating famous films in a recessed, tree-lined sidewalk dotted with outdoor eateries.
The suggestions grew out of a weekend workshop in May, during which about 125 people fanned out through downtown Culver City. Their notes and observations led to a report that will be used by city planners as a guide to creating a master plan for the area.
The City Council has already asked staff to study what it would take to implement some of the suggestions contained in the report, Councilman Steven Gourley said. A few projects, such as realigning Culver and Washington boulevards, should begin within a year.
