VILLA PARK : City Council Adopts $2.8-Million Budget
The City Council has adopted a $2.8-million budget, representing a $216,000 drop in spending from the 1990-91 fiscal year, city officials said.
City Manager Fred Maley said spending levels will not be as high in fiscal 1991-92 because several road improvement projects were completed last year, including those on Villa Park Road, Santiago Boulevard and Valley Drive.
Despite the recession, Maley called the city’s finances “stable.” Sales-tax income dropped 5% and motor vehicle fees dropped 10%, but property-tax revenue, which accounts for 40% of the city’s income, rose 8%, to $707,000.
The city’s operating budget remains almost unchanged at $1.74 million, with police services the biggest single expenditure at $500,000. Also, the city’s seven employees received raises of 4% to 7%, Maley said.
The city will spend $1.04 million on street projects this year, including widening Meats Avenue from two to four lanes and improving Villa Drive, Maley added.
