LA PALMA : Council Approves Plans for Reservoir

The City Council has approved plans for a new 2-million-gallon reservoir, culminating five years of planning to boost the city’s emergency water supply.

The $1.75-million reservoir would be built along Walker Street near Coyote Creek. Ground water would be pumped into the reservoir from a pump already at the site.

“This would provide added capacity, especially for emergency purposes and when there’s a really big fire,” said Ismile Noorbaksh, the city’s public works director.

The city recently purchased three-fourths of an acre for a reservoir at the northeast corner of Walker and Fresca Drive for about $750,000. The reservoir, which would not be built until next year, would add to the city’s current 2 1/2-million-gallon reservoir at the city yard, Noorbaksh said.

A 1986 master plan of the city’s water requirements found the need for another reservoir to keep water available during an emergency, he said. The city has been working for about two years in planning, designing and purchasing land for the reservoir.
