NATION IN BRIEF : COLORADO : Ex-Officer Arrested in 4 Slayings at Bank
A retired Denver police sergeant was ordered held without bond after being arrested in the slayings of four unarmed security guards during a June 16 bank robbery that netted an estimated $100,000. James William King, 54, a part-time security guard at United Bank of Denver until last fall, was arrested at his home near Golden, Colo., Police Chief Ari Zavaras said. The arrest followed an 18-day investigation involving more than 100 police officers and FBI agents. Investigators focused on former employees because the gunman had evaded the bank’s electronic security system to gain entrance to a basement counting room.
