CLIPBOARD : Home-Building Dollar Flow
The amount of money to be spent on home-building in the future has declined along with general economic conditions. During the first four months of the year, the value of residential building permits was $326.3 million. That was nearly 40% less than the amount for the comparable period of last year. The comparative decline took place even though April, at $199.2 million, was the biggest month for permit values since last September.
Although the overall county valuation for the first four months was down, there were gains in some cities, some of them spectacular. Among the nine cities whose January-April total this year was higher than in 1990, four of them increased more than 100%. Mission Viejo and Tustin registered the largest gains--150 and 147%, respectively. And among the 19 cities where there were declines, Stanton had the largest--90%.
