Ringo Buys ‘Family Room’
Former Beatles drummer RINGO STARR and his wife, actress Barbara Bach, have bought a home in Beverly Hills for about $3.3 million.
The couple, who were renting, paid cash and took title under the name of a holding company, sources said.
Starr, who at 50 is an elder statesmen of rock ‘n’ roll, released a compact disc a few months ago that was recorded in concert during his All-Starr Band tour in 1989 with eight veteran rockers.
He is working on a lineup for another All-Starr troupe and may star in a new sitcom, according to recent published reports.
Bach, who has been married to Starr since they both starred in the 1981 movie “Caveman,” has been in more than a dozen movies.
They bought a remodeled, 33-year-old home with three bedrooms plus maid’s quarters and three fireplaces in 5,500 square feet.
The contemporary-style, one-story house is on an acre with lush grounds, city views, a pool, spa, cabana and large guest house for their visiting children. Bach has two, and Starr, a grandfather, has three. All but one of their children are in their 20s.
Joyce Flaherty and Joyce Rey of Rodeo Realty had the $3.75-million listing, and Stan Smith, Jon Douglas Co., represented the buyers. None was available for comment.
Pop star MADONNA’S $8-million-plus home purchase is still in escrow, but her manager, Freddy DeMann, and his wife, Candy, bought a Malibu home last week for nearly its $3.5-million asking price, sources say.
“This is just an extra, weekend home for them,” said realtor Stan Herman, who owned the Malibu home for more than 20 years before selling it to the couple. The DeManns also have a home on the Westside.
Built in the early 1930s but remodeled many times since, the Malibu home has five bedrooms and six baths in about 2,700 square feet. It’s also on Carbon Beach, where Herman is relocating.
Herman spent 18 months restoring a 1940s-era home there that was once owned by industrialist Norton Simon and his wife, actress Jennifer Jones. The one-story, 6,000-square-foot house has an 80-foot-long swimming pool on the sand, Herman said.

Rocker AXL ROSE’S bachelor pad off the Sunset Strip will be given away in August through a sweepstakes for MTV viewers.
MTV is sponsoring a tour of Rose’s band, Guns N’ Roses, to promote two new albums, “Use Your Illusion I and II.”
Rose and his wife, Erin, bought a house in the Hollywood Hills last November for $800,000 and just sold his condo, in the 13-story Shoreham Towers, to MTV for the sweepstakes, an MTV source said.
Real estate sources estimated the value of the one-bedroom, 12th-story unit at $250,000 to $300,000. The sweepstakes winner will also get Rose’s stereo, bar and barbecue.
The condo is where Rose was living when he was arrested last October after an argument with a neighbor over loud music he had been playing. He became involved with police again in Missouri Tuesday where officers say he touched off a riot that injured 60 people and wrecked a new theater when he lunged at a fan with a camera. Other celebs who own units in Shoreham Towers include Neil Sedaka and David Lee Roth.
Grammy-winning songwriter CLIFF MAGNESS, who writes much of the music for the pop trio Wilson Phillips, and his wife, Carole, have bought a five-bedroom home on a hill at North Ranch for just under $1 million, sources say.
The young couple and their two small children already moved into their newly built, Country French home, and they’re planning to add a swimming pool.
They formerly lived in a Brentwood home that sold for more than $900,000, sources said.

JULIAN LENNON, pop-musician son of the late John Lennon, has sold the house off Mulholland Drive that he put on the market last September when he bought another residence in the Beverly Hills Post Office Area.
John England, president of EHC Equity Holding Co. of Beverly Hills, acquired the property, which had been listed at about $1.3 million with Erin Caldwell of Alvarez, Hyland & Young, who also represented the buyer.
“It’s peaceful, tranquil, serene, and my wife loves it,” England said of the gated, Mediterranean built in the 1930s.
Lennon relocated last fall, for the third time in less than three years, because he missed having a view, Caldwell said at the time.
He also has a big lawn, a pool and lots of privacy at his current residence.
MICHAEL PARE, who starred in the 1987-88 TV series “Houston Knights” and also appeared in the movies “Eddie and the Cruisers” and “Streets of Fire,” has put his Venice house on the market at $595,000.
Pare, who just completed a pilot for an NBC series called “Empire City” and co-stars with Dennis Hopper in an action movie still being filmed, is planning to move to a larger home in Pacific Palisades, said Kathy Villa, who has the listing at Asher Dann & Associates, Beverly Hills.
Pare’s Venice home is Spanish style and has three bedrooms in 2,000 square feet, one block from the beach.
A three-story, Bel-Air mansion that was destroyed by fire June 3 was a 59-year-old Mediterranean designed by the late architect Paul Williams.
“It was a fabulous house,” said Williams’ granddaughter, Karen Hudson, who remembered its ballroom, hand-painted beams and 300-foot-long swimming pool where the late actress Marion Davies, who once lived there, canoed. The canal-like pool also had several caves, a half dozen waterfalls and its own beach, she said.
