Spanish Defense
Stanley Meisler (“Catalonian Town of Cardona Is Worth Its Salt,” June 16) says that “Catalonia . . . fought in defense of the Spanish Republic against the fascists during the Spanish Civil War.” Meisler omits the fact that those fighting “in defense of the Spanish Republic” were fighting on the side of the Communists.
