From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A reputed captain in the Patriarca crime family was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison. Matthew Guglielmetti, 41, of Cranston, R.I., had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate federal racketeering laws; a second conspiracy count was dropped in a plea bargain. Judge Alan H. Nevas in U.S. District Court in Hartford said he imposed the maximum penalty after he listened to tape recordings of Patriarca induction rites, in which new members swore a blood oath to kill for the family. Guglielmetti was one of eight defendants linked to the Providence, R.I., syndicate.
