Jay Dewey Harnish; Designed Southland Schools, Hospitals
Jay Dewey Harnish, 93, whose architecture firm began designing government housing during World War II but expanded to produce 75 schools and 25 hospitals throughout Southern California in the ensuing years. His Ontario-based firm of Harnish, Morgan & Causey designed the San Antonio Community, Pomona Valley, Covina Intercommunity, Whittier Presbyterian and Fontana Kaiser Permanente hospitals. Former Gov. Edmund G. (Pat) Brown named him to the state Board of Architectural Examiners in 1960. He was board president in 1962 and retired in 1968. On Saturday in Rancho Cucamonga.
