Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Hialeah Mayor Gets 10 Years for Extortion

Raul Martinez, the suspended mayor of Hialeah, Fla., was sentenced to 10 years in prison for influence peddling. He was convicted in March of six counts of conspiracy, extortion and racketeering for allegedly extorting almost $1 million in exchange for favors on zoning and other city matters. Martinez is free on bond pending an appeal.
