OOPS: Newspapers make lots of mistakes but this one was a doozy. . . . The subject: Wednesday’s front page story in the Orange County Register about the Gypsum Canyon jail bill passing the Assembly. The problem: The bill passed two months ago. Instead of reporting Tuesday’s Senate action on the bill, the Register mistakenly repeated its May story, complete with the wrong day of the week. Register editors had no comment, but the bill’s author, Assemblyman Tom Umberg (D-Garden Grove) was amused. . . . “Although I’m a freshman,” he quipped, “I don’t think they make me run my bills through here twice.”
