Rest at Last: Dame Barbara Cartland, the queen of romantic fiction, took a rare break Tuesday at swanky Claridge’s restaurant in London to celebrate her 90th birthday. “Claridge’s is the first place I ever went when I came out as a debutante in 1919, so I thought it would be rather appropriate,” she said, flapping her trademark false eyelashes. Cartland, author of 543 novels whose heroines are always virgins, is a step-grandmother of Princess Diana.

Sharing: Former football linebacker Kevin Reilly wants to talk to former major league pitcher Dave Dravecky about the cancer they have in common. Dravecky, who last played for the San Francisco Giants, had his left arm and shoulder amputated last month. Reilly had his left arm and most of the shoulder amputated in 1979. Reilly, formerly with the Philadelphia Eagles, said he sent a package to Dravecky but got no response. “He could be getting a lot of shielding now,” Reilly said. “But I’d like to talk to him.”

Sealed With a Kiss: Hotel magnate Leona Helmsley gave her husband, Harry, a couple of smoochy kisses and a band played “I’m Just Wild About Harry” in New York Tuesday as the Helmsleys donated $200,000 to programs for senior citizens. After the kisses, Harry Helmsley said: “I like that.” In 1989 he was declared mentally incompetent to stand trial with his wife on federal tax evasion charges. Leona Helmsley was convicted but is free on appeal.

Who Knows Clothes?: Ilaria Tocchini won the Italian swimming title in the 200-meter butterfly in Pesaro, Italy but earned more attention for what she wore: a bikini. “The one-piece model is tight on the shoulders,” Tocchini said. . . . In Venice, city officials Tuesday stepped up their campaign against “bad-mannered” tourists who stroll in the lagoon city bare-chested or in bathing suits. Offenders face fines of up to $23.
