Enjoys View Park Area

Congratulations to real estate agent Jo Ramsey--it is not often that an African-American has the courage to tell it like it is. When asked whether the successful blacks of View Park ought to feel an obligation to “extend a hand to those who haven’t made it as far up the ladder,” she replies, “No! Those who are going to be saved will be saved.” Then she wisely adds, “We have an obligation to teach our children the values of how to be decent human beings.”

I couldn’t agree with her more. And that obligation extends to the white community as well. In the 18th and 19th Centuries, when immigrants came to the United States from all over Europe, families put their shoulders to the wheel and pushed the most promising of their children and siblings up that ladder. Each generation contributed to the betterment of their own families, and the result was a forward-moving, self-sufficient America.

Now we have a generation of give-mes. All they want to do is take. Another generation of these lazy louts and the workers who pay the taxes to support them will be so overburdened the entire system will fall apart.

I guess that’s how history goes. The pendulum swings from progress to destruction. The motion of the pendulum depends on people like Jo Ramsey and the people who live in View Park--people who raised themselves by their own bootstraps to their everlasting credit. I wish we had more of them.
