MOORPARK : 2nd Public Forum on Gangs Scheduled

Share

The city of Moorpark, which has seen a marked increase in gang activity recently, has scheduled a second public forum on the gang problem for Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Community Center at 799 Moorpark Ave., said Susan Cauldwell, assistant to City Manager Steven Kueny. The first gang forum June 18 drew about 50 residents, she said.

The purpose of the meetings is for residents to learn more about gang activity in the city and to offer their suggestions on what can be done to curtail it, city officials said.

The meeting is being sponsored by a special ad-hoc committee formed by the Moorpark City Council earlier this year. The committee includes representatives from the city, school board, Chamber of Commerce and the Boys & Girls Club.

Both city and law enforcement officials said graffiti and gang-related vandalism is on the rise.

Marcos Vargas, executive director of El Concilio Condado, an Oxnard social service agency, will preside over Tuesday’s meeting. A Spanish translator will also be present.
