2 Men Struck by Freight Train, Killed
Two Glassell Park men were struck and killed early Sunday when they stumbled into the path of a freight train in Sun Valley, authorities said.
The men were identified as Octavio Millan, 34, and Alfredo Ramirez Valdez, 21, a County coroner’s spokeswoman said.
The engineer on a southbound Southern Pacific train weighing 3,350 tons slowed to 35 m.p.h. and sounded a warning whistle but could not avoid hitting the men, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Christopher Vasquez said.
The accident occurred at 2:35 a.m. in the 8200 block of San Fernando Road.
