Japanese Broadcaster Quits: The chairman of Japan’s public broadcast network resigned after admitting that he lied about his whereabouts when a rocket carrying a network satellite blew up after liftoff from Cape Canaveral, Fla., on April 18. The resignation of Keiji Shima, head of Japan Broadcasting Corp., or NHK, adds to a growing list of Japanese executives who have stepped down in recent scandals. Shima initially told a parliamentary committee that he monitored the launch at the New Jersey headquarters of General Electric Co., which built the satellite for NHK, but he later acknowledged that he had been in Los Angeles that day.
