If abortion is murder, then both mother and doctor are criminals. Michael Kinsley makes a good point (“If Abortion Is Murder, Is the Mother a Criminal?” July 2). And, if the law doesn’t treat them as such, neither does the church. And for good reason.

For the church condones murder by saying that abortion in cases of rape or incest is OK. So, it is not the taking of the life that is the issue really . . . just whose life and for whose purpose.

We should at least be honest. It is not the taking of the life that is the issue. The issue is one of power: the church’s and the government’s versus yours. You decide. For this is America, where governing agencies derive their powers from the consent of the governed. You decide.
