The controversial burial of remains identified by the Marines as those of a flier shot down in the Vietnam War was postponed. A spokeswoman for the Marines said military lawyers decided that the three children of Maj. Hugh M. Fanning should also have been given the opportunity to authorize or reject the burial in Arlington National Cemetery. Fanning’s wife, Kathryn, has refused to sanction the burial, arguing that the remains are not those of her husband. If the children refuse to sanction the interment, the Corps can use an authorization it received from the Marine’s parents, the lawyers said.
