Pacific Gas & Electric Co.: The San Francisco-based utility said second-quarter net income surged 83% to $305.5 million, while revenue edged up slightly to $2.351 billion. PG&E; said that as a result of continuous improvement in operating performance, utility business earnings remained strong, and the firm achieved excellent performance from its Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.
