Hermosa Beach resident Joseph Mark will replace William Beverly as a trustee of the South Bay Union High School District. Beverly resigned to accept an appointment on the El Camino Community College Board of Trustees. Mark has also been a member of the Intermediate School Planning and Advisory Committee for the Manhattan Beach Elementary School District.

Six South Bay residents have received scholarships totaling $3,500 from the Peninsula Chapter of the American Business Women’s Assn. The scholarships are for tuition, books and fees. Recipients are Christine Bobich of San Pedro, a student at USC School of Nursing; Marina Olivas of San Pedro, a student at UCLA; Mary Lowen, studying for a master’s degree at Cal State Long Beach; Colleen Gluekert, a student at Cal State Long Beach, Monica Harris, who will attend Lewis and Clark University in Portland, Ore., and Scott Gwaltney, a student at UC Berkeley.

Dr. Richard J. Glassock, chairman of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center’s department of medicine, has received the National Kidney Foundation’s David M. Hume Memorial Award, the highest honor the foundation bestows on a physician.

The award is given to a person acknowledged by colleagues for significant advances in the fields of nephrology or urology. Glassock served as foundation president from 1986 to 1988 and is chairman of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Four students received $1,000 scholarships from the South Bay Board of Realtors at a June breakfast meeting. They are graduating seniors Monica Gonzalez and Jennifer Kelsey Bauman of Redondo Union High School and Steve Singiser and David Henschel of Mira Costa High School.

Jaime Bermudez of Carson High School and Shanda Briggs of Banning High School have received $2,400 college scholarships from Watson Land Co.

Bermudez graduated with a 3.70 GPA and plans to major in business administration at Cal State Long Beach. He also received the Presidential Academic Fitness Award and the Bank of America Award in English. Briggs graduated with a 3.47 GPA and will attend UC Davis as a pre-medical student. She also was honored by the California Scholastic Federation for academic achievement.
