Distributing the Dates for Film Festivals

In response to David Fox's article about the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film/Video Festival ("Gay Film Fest Loses Out on Four Films," July 9): This will make distributors shy even further away from difficult subject matter.

Fox reports Larry Horne's frustration at not being able to secure certain films for the festival in a manner that implies that the companies were homophobic.

In fact, every one of the distributors cites conflicts with other festivals as their problem.

Should we consider the L.A. festival so important that we should turn down internationally recognized festivals such as New York, Telluride or Toronto?

Rather than lash out against the very companies that are supporting a more daring cinema, festival director Larry Horne should look at changing his dates to a time when there are fewer conflicts.
