Charles Imbrecht, a Ventura County native and chairman of the California Energy Commission, has been named grand marshal of the 1991 Ventura County Fair Parade, fair officials said.

The fair’s board of directors named Imbrecht in recognition of “his many years of support and participation in the Ventura County Fair, and his contribution to state government,” said Mike Paluszak, fair general manager.

Imbrecht, who maintains a home in Ventura but lives in Sacramento, was elected to the Assembly in 1976. After six years in the Assembly, he gave up his seat to run for the state Senate, but lost to Sen. Gary Hart (D-Santa Barbara), who was then an assemblyman.

In 1983, Imbrecht was appointed chairman of the Energy Commission by Gov. George Deukmejian and was reappointed in 1988. In 1990, he was appointed co-chairman of the U. S. Alternative Fuels Council.
