Almost four years after Greg Louganis won his last Olympic gold medal and retired, U.S. divers are still being asked when the next Louganis will arrive.

Not soon, they answer.

“I seriously doubt there’s ever going to be another athlete like Greg to come in and dominate all three events like he did for so many years,” said Kent Ferguson, the three-meter springboard world champion who trained with Louganis for three years.

Between 1979 and 1987, Louganis won 13 Festival medals, including 12 golds.
