Singleton and ‘Boyz’
“Boyz” is not Singleton’s first effort to send a message to kids in South-Central Los Angeles.
As a student at USC, I served with him on the governing board of the Norman Topping Student Aid Fund, an organization that funds the college educations of local minority students. He spent much time recruiting in high schools, getting across our message: that attending a quality university is not impossible.
He knew it didn’t matter where you grew up, that you could do anything you put your mind to--he’s a living example of that.
